Hiking - 2-Day Wild Camping on the Hautes-Chaumes
Between the summer mountain pastures, peat bogs, and clear-weather panoramas of the Alps, this wild camping trip on the volcanic ridges of Livradois-Forez offers an immersion in nature and is accessible by train.

Where to find potable water points on the route?
You'll find several springs and streams, particularly near the summer pastures, but some may be intermittent depending on the season. Remember to bring a water filter or treatment method.
Are permits required for wild camping?
There are no specific regulations for the Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Park; French national regulations apply. These state that it is forbidden to wild camp:
- On public roads,
- Within 500 m of a historical monument,
- Within 200 m of a water source intended for consumption,
- In National Nature Reserves, Prefectural Biotopes Protection Orders, and State Biological Reserves (you can use Geoportail to view their boundaries),
- In the Colleigne and Malaguet summer pasture Regional Nature Reserves,
- In certain areas defined by municipal or motivated prefectural orders.
