Hiking - Family walk to the Vacherie du Boréon

Let this walk guide you through the Boréon forest, home to a multitude of species such as spruce, Arolla pine, and larch, as well as wild strawberry, blueberry, and raspberry plants. The route is accessible for Joëlette users.

The Vacherie du Boréon, still operating in summer, sells a local cow's milk Tomme cheese that is sure to delight your taste buds...

From the welcome chalet, cross the road and follow the access track for Parc Alpha just before the Pont de Cerise. At a junction of two tracks, take the one on the right that climbs back up to the road. Cross the road at the P3 car park and continue on the cross-country ski trail that ascends into the Boréon forest. At the first two junctions, follow the right-hand track as it climbs gradually in a series of switchbacks. At the third and fourth junctions, take the left track.

At the fifth junction, continue on the ascending track to the right, then take the one on the left. The path now levels out, and you can cool off at the foot of a small waterfall. Continue and stay on the right-hand track, which rejoins the road at a hairpin bend. Follow the road to the right for about a hundred metres, then go down the track on the left to the Vacherie du Boréon. Cheese is available for purchase.

Leave the dairy farm on the track below it, continuing to a junction (marked by a wooden signpost). From there, you have the option of an out-and-back trip on the right-hand track to the Saladin footbridge to cool off by the river (a possible picnic spot). Otherwise, continue straight ahead to the road, cross it, and enter the car park opposite. Cross the car park and climb the grassy track. Bear right at the first junction.

At the second junction, descend via the track on the right, retracing your steps from the outward journey. When you reach the road again, cross it and take the left-hand track back to the welcome chalet.

You may find some wild raspberries and blueberries along this shady forest route.
