Walking - Walk for Everyone
Saint Jean d’Heurs has long been open to all, young and old, with limited or full mobility, from here or elsewhere. This short walk for everyone, with no major difficulties, embodies this spirit and allows you to discover the woods and fields of this corner of Varennes, with views of the Puy de Dôme, the Sancy, or Pierre sur Haute in the distance.
The Granges Castle
In Saint Jean d’Heurs, they say "the castle"! It’s a beautiful neoclassical building from the mid-19th century in the heart of the commune, in the hamlet of Les Granges. Commissioned by Viscount René de Semallé, the castle and its lands anchored the family from Versailles here; the Viscount became mayor of Saint-Jean-d’Heurs, and his son succeeded him. However, the vast property was broken up due to a lack of heirs. It changed hands and successively housed a clandestine arms depot. After the war, it welcomed a rehabilitation center for 50 troubled children, then a holiday camp for young blind and disabled children, and finally, since 1975, Adapei has managed a home for disabled adults. The "castle" is now surrounded by buildings adapted to this verdant, dynamic living space, constantly evolving.
