Hiking - BARRET-SUR-MÉOUGE - Crête de Chabre from the Col de la Crousette

This loop trail invites you on a journey between sky and earth. Take in the stunning views while keeping your feet firmly on the ground!

“In the Baronnies Provençales, cliffs and ridges define the landscape. From spring onwards, vultures and Short-toed Snake Eagles soar overhead. It’s impossible to resist the call of the summit! I climb up to the Crête de Chabre, where the Col Saint-Ange viewpoint offers a remarkable view that I never tire of. And as a wonderful reward, the trail continues along a section of the ridge that is both fun and pleasant.” Xavier Mordefroid, mountain guide at Armoise.

  • RIDGELINE: some sections can be vertiginous and technical, especially between points 2 and 3. I stay mindful of my balance and don't hesitate to use my hands for support if necessary.

  • WILD PLANTS: I refrain from picking the flowers and plants encountered on the trail. Some are protected, and they all contribute to the rich local biodiversity.

  • SUMMER SEASON: A portion of the route is exposed to the sun. In summer, I bring sufficient water, a hat, and sunscreen, and I opt for an early start to avoid the hottest part of the day.

  • PEACE AND QUIET: I respect the quietness of the area. I avoid shouting or using audio devices (radios, speakers, etc.) out of respect for other visitors and for the wildlife, which is especially vulnerable during breeding and wintering seasons.

  • FIRE RISK: Fire is the enemy of the forest… and the hiker! I do not smoke or light fires in the forest, especially as it is forbidden year-round! And in the summer, before heading out, I check the conditions and regulations for accessing forested areas.
