Hiking - Bois de Couroules - Véranne n° 2
From the Drevet car park, head up into the village centre. Pass the church and continue straight onto the Route de la Fontaine (following the brown and white Pilat Park waymarking). Turn right onto the Chemin du Repos, which passes above the cemetery, and continue straight ahead. You then leave the tarmac road and after 100 m, enter the Bois de Priaux. Go downhill to cross the D34 (⚠️ Caution, this is a busy road, please be careful) and the Bois de Couroules. You will reach a path; turn right here.
To the east, you can see the villages of Bessey and Lupé, with a beautiful view of the Alps on a clear day.
At the hamlet of Le Buisson, you will pass by the edge of the old castle, which was destroyed by fire in 1831. It was once the seat of the Barony of Maclas.
Head downhill towards Maclas and cross the Route de Véranne. On your right is the Domaine des Camiers, a former silkworm farm now used for agriculture. It's a remarkable architectural complex with arcades and high stone walls enclosing a manor house topped with a watchtower that has been converted into a dovecote. Continue straight along the flat path. At the end of the factories, go up to the right, then turn left to cross the Fayon river on the Pont de Paradis. Head back up to Véranne via Le Viallon, following the old road. Be careful when crossing the road.
