Hiking - Englishberg Loop

This roughly twelve-kilometer hike will lead you to discover "Sandstone" in various forms: rocky spur, ancient castle ruin, and cave will punctuate this forested route.

A woodland ambiance between Wimmenau and Sparsbach.

From Wimmenau, follow the red rectangle marker. You will discover the Fenêtre sur le Paysage "Ciel" in the vast cultivated clearing of Herrenfeld, south of the Maison Suisse. It offers a moment of respite in the heart of the forest. Seated on the net, you are invited to contemplate the sky, which constantly renews the perception of the landscape. Also observe the village silhouette, the relief of the Northern Vosges, and the edge of the forest.

Then continue towards the forest. At the intersection, leave the red rectangle marker to follow the red barred rectangle marker towards the rocky spur of Englishberg. Continue following the markers to descend towards Sparsbach and reach the Meisenbach Valley.
In Sparsbach, you will pass by the restored washhouse. Continue to the right, following the yellow cross marker, passing in front of the stadium. You will then arrive at the Altar Rock, believed to have been used for sacrifices. Then you will spot the earthen mound of the Petit Château du Meisenbach and its barely visible ruins. From there, continue to the right, following the red triangle marker, to reach the Ochsenstall Rock. These are natural caves whose name "Oxen Rock" might suggest that this rock served as a shelter for oxen in former times.

Find the path marked with a red rectangle to descend back towards Wimmenau. Follow this trail marking to the end.
