Walking - Foissy les Vezelay Loop
A family-friendly loop, alternating between the open landscapes of the Foissy hillsides, wooded sections, and the picturesque village of Foissy with its limestone houses.
During your walk, you will pass by several historic named places such as "les Sauniers," a geological outcrop linked to the salinity of the Fontaines Salées (Salt Springs).
I've been told a story that the "gabelous" (salt tax collectors) from the time of the gabelle (salt tax) wanted to block the salt wells. Strong women from Vezelay came down from the hill and prevented this action, forcing the gabelous to retreat...
According to the Song of Girart de Rousillon, a bloody battle took place between King Charles the Bald and his enemies at a place called Vaubouton. The charnel house from this battle is said to be located at a place called Le Martray, as indicated on the map.
