Walking - Source Rouge Loop (short version)
This pleasant, shaded path winds through the forest and offers lovely viewpoints over the villages of Montfort, Saint Marcel, and Notre-Dame-du-Pré along the way (especially on the long version).
Start: Montfort's old bread oven in the center of the village.
2 options: short version: 1h round trip - long version: 1h30 (Loop)
Take the path that goes up to the left of the oven (approx. 5 min).
You will come to the first viewpoint at the switchback (view over Notre Dame du Pré and Saint Marcel).
After the bend, take the path on your left (look for the slightly hidden sign for "source rouge").
Follow the forest path to the next junction.
Then turn left and follow the forest road for about 200 m (approx. 5 min.).
Take the path that veers off to your right and follow it to the Source Rouge (1145 m).
To get back down, you have 2 options:
1/ Short version: Out and back on the same route
2/ Long version: When you reach the Source Rouge, follow the sign for Hauteville and continue straight uphill. After the first switchback, go about fifty meters and take the forest road. Continue for about 200 meters and at the first junction on your right, head towards the Source Rouge again.
Return via the same route as on the way up. You will reach the village of Montfort.
In Montfort, behind the church on the path towards "La Ville", you will find the old oil press. It is now used one day in October to press apples and make cider.
