Hiking - Source Rouge Loop (long version)
A lovely forest hike, discovering pretty little isolated hamlets.
Start: The old bread oven in Montfort, in the village centre.
2 options: long version: 2h30 (Loop) - shorter versions: 1h (Out and back) - 1h30 (loop)
Long version
Take the path that climbs to the left of the oven (approx. 5 min).
The first viewpoint appears at the hairpin turn (view over Notre Dame du Pré and Saint Marcel).
After the turn, take the path on your left (look for the slightly hidden sign for "Source Rouge").
Follow the forest path to the next junction.
Then turn left and follow the forest road for approx. 200 m (5 min.).
Take the path on your right and follow it to the Red Spring (1145 m).
At the spring, follow the signs for "Hauteville".
Once you reach the hamlet of Hauteville, take the path that descends at the far end of the village and head towards "La Ville", then Montfort.
On arrival, just before reaching the village of Montfort, you will find the old oil press, now used one day in October to press apples and make cider.
In Montfort, you can also discover the baroque church.
Shorter variations:
Out and back: (1h return)
Take the same start as the long version.
- from the Red Spring, return via the same route
Loop: (1h30 return)
When you arrive at the Red Spring, follow the sign for Hauteville and continue straight on, heading uphill. After the first hairpin turn, go about fifty metres and take the forest road. Continue for about 200 metres and at the first junction on your right, head towards the Red Spring again.
Then return to the village of Montfort via the same route you took on the way out.
