Hiking - Loop of the Huts and Meurgers
The dry-stone heritage of the Vézelien bears witness to centuries of vine cultivation. Highlighted by "les jardins vernaculaires" through a loop rich in history and exceptional landscapes, this heritage deserves our attention.
The small dry-stone heritage of the Vezelien tells us the story of its landscapes. For centuries, through slow and repeated work, the land was cleared of stones for cultivation, primarily for vineyards. Gradually, these stones formed piles along the plots (meurgers), huts for shelter, or low walls and enclosures to delineate the parcels. Over the last hundred years, cultivation was abandoned, meurgers and huts became overgrown, and some have disappeared. However, others are being restored, and vines are being planted once more.
The "Les jardins vernaculaires" project is a tribute to this stone heritage and to those who keep it alive.
This loop, not entirely waymarked, follows sections of the GR 13 marked in red and white, as well as parts of local hiking trails marked in yellow.
The paths run alongside private land; please stay on the paths. Please respect the natural and built heritage that you will discover. Clockwise direction is recommended.
