Hiking - Sentier Valerio Tassone Loop

The "Valerio Tassone" trail is a very beautiful loop circuit, which is well-defined, waymarked, and maintained by a group of volunteers from Robilante, motivated by the desire to pay tribute to a friend who was lost too soon to the mountains. Opened in 2017, the route starts in Robilante and heads towards the west of the Val Vermenagna. It follows dirt tracks and easily walkable, very well-signposted trails (orange markings), passing dozens of old hamlets before reaching the splendid viewpoint of Madonnina della Luce. From here, you can admire the Robilante area and the hills of the Boves municipality, from Prato del Soglio to Bisaota, and the famous greenway of Madonna delle Piagge. The route proposed here is suitable for all skill levels and avoids the most difficult part of the original trail, which is recommended only for experienced hikers.

The route proposed here is suitable for all skill levels and avoids the most difficult part of the original trail, which is recommended only for experienced hikers. This route can be hiked in any season but is particularly well-suited for spring outings to see the flowering meadows and autumn outings to enjoy the golden foliage of the beech and chestnut trees. The loop can be extended with a short, but interesting and well-designed detour to discover the forest. Suitable for young children and recommended for families, it is located very close to the Sentier Valerio Tassone.

Follow Via Ghiglione for about a hundred metres, before turning left (SVT sign) to take the narrow lane that runs alongside the old village mill. The lane leads to a dirt track which, 200 metres further on (marker stone), heads uphill into the chestnut wood. The path goes up and down, passing several hamlets ("tetti" meaning roofs in the local dialect): Valla – Gaia – Frega sottano and Frega soprano – Martinas – Casot del Bosch Puma – Adreit and Violetta, as well as streams and waterfalls, before reaching, after the beech wood,Tetto Rescasso (where you'll find the fountain and the first junction leading back to the starting point).. While admiring the landscape, you can see a beautiful crucifixion scene dating from 1789, the work of a painter from Paesana, Jors Boneto, who left several magnificent paintings in the various valleys of the Cuneo province. Go past the small road leading to Tetto Snive and continue on the trail that enters the "Bandita Violetta" (so named in reference to the legal ban, passed on 20 June 1977, prohibiting the cutting of beech foliage which protected the road and valley from avalanches). About 750 metres further on, you reach a viewpoint with views of Monte Vecchio, Bric Castea and Bec Baral. Cross to the right to the Snive votive chapel, from where you can admire Bussaia, Punta dell'Aiera and Servatun. Shortly after the chapel, you will reach the tiny Lac delle Piagge, then take a slightly more difficult section of the trail to reach Madonnina della Luce (with a giant bench and a superb panoramic view, even at night, over the Cuneo plain, thanks to lighting powered by solar panels). You then follow an easy path heading back down towards the Plaine delle Piagge with its pretty little church, from where the second trail back to the starting point begins. The loop crosses the meadow, heading north downhill to join a trail, then a dirt track that leads into the forest. Then head downhill, passing all the small forks towards Tetto Fantino, Tetto Lessibel and Tetto Casto to rejoin the initial path just before entering the village.
