Hiking - Brochard - Le Val-Dieu

A walk steeped in history, with the Chartreuse du Val-Dieu as its guiding thread.

The hike begins with the ruins of the Chartreuse du Val-Dieu, founded in 1170 and destroyed after the revolution from 1795 to 1799. You will then walk alongside ponds dug by the monks (the first pond, extending from Val-Dieu, was re-dug in the 2000s). Next, you will discover Brochard, where monks used the water to heal the sick. Then, via the Commeauche peat bog, you will delve into the Forêt de Réno Valdieu, populated by oaks: in 1665, Colbert imposed the high forest system to supply the royal navy with the timber needed for ship frames. You will then walk along the Grand Boulay, formerly a farm of Val-Dieu, surrounded by moats and with an entrance protected by a porch dated 1579.

D291 towards Malétable: busy road.
D281 after Grand Boulay: road with poor visibility.
