Walking - Chateau Ville Vieille - Sentier des Astragales
A botanical discovery in the heart of the Astragalus heathland
Facing the sun, the slope before you is an 'adret' (a south-facing slope). Tilted like a solar panel, it experiences short, mild winters and very hot summers, an ideal climate for drought-tolerant plants and animals. People historically took advantage of this climate to grow grains.
This trail is best hiked in spring to see the famous astragalus, or in autumn. Get a copy of the "sentier écologique des Astragales" guide to make the most of the area's biodiversity.
The snow on this route melts quickly in winter. However, you should still bring crampons for any icy patches that may linger.
