Hiking - Circuit du Grand Chêne (Large Loop)
The Grand Chêne trail, starting from Salins, winds through the forest. Along the way, two viewpoints offer beautiful views over Moûtiers, the terraced hamlets of Hautecour, Salins-les-Thermes...
From the Vignes Blanches car park (located at the entrance to Salins when arriving from Moûtiers, on the right after the bridge), cross the business park and continue to the cemetery (on the left bank of the Doron river, opposite the AGIP petrol station).
At the cemetery, take the uphill path signposted "Chemin du Grand Chêne".
At the 4-way crossroads (unsigned), continue straight on uphill. When you reach the Route des Belleville, cross the road and climb the few steps on the other side. Follow the path signposted "Forêt communale du Grand Chêne" and then "Forêt du Grand Chêne-Le Bois".
The forest track will then lead you to the first viewpoint.
There is a table here, perfect for a pleasant picnic break. The spot offers an unexpected and surprising view over Moûtiers, the sand quarry, the terraced hamlets of Hautecour...
Then take the path that climbs up on the right and continue your ascent. You will soon spot the second viewpoint on your right, directly above the first one.
Return:
Retrace your steps back down to the second junction, where you can take an alternative path to avoid using the same route as on the way up. This will lead you back to the car park, completing the loop...
