Hiking - Altschlossfelsen rock circuit
This easy tour takes you across the border into Germany on an ancient Roman road and along the picturesque path along the majestic Altschlossfelsen rock, nicknamed the "Colorado Rock".
The rock of the Altschlossfelsen is also called the little Colorado of the Land of Bitche. This rocky bar of pink sandstone is 1.5 km long, will blow your eyes away!
This circuit is part of the paths of excellence of the Pays de Bitche (n°6). Starting from the car park of the church of Roppeviller, follow the red disc markings and the green badge "Sentier d'excellence". Join the main road then turn right at the restaurant "le café lorrain". Follow the main road until you leave the village. Take the Helmut Kohl path (sandstone paving on the ground). After the picnic table, take the path going down on the right to reach the rock: this rather steep and uneven climb will be the only difficulty of the route. At the top, take the path that goes down to the base of the rock, on the right. Follow the rock to the end and go down to take the path back on the left. As you approach the picnic table crossed at the beginning of the route, turn right a few metres before, towards Diane's Rock. After observing the engraving of the goddess of the hunt, continue up the hill, before turning left to return to the village and reach the starting point.
