Hiking - Col d'Anelle
This route follows a track for its entire length, is accessible with a Joëlette all-terrain wheelchair, and offers a beautiful glimpse into the pastoral life still found around St-Dalmas-le-Selvage. Upon reaching the Col d'Anelle, you'll be rewarded with a splendid panoramic view of the Tinée valley and its peaks.
The Anelle plateau and col (pass), whose name means "lamb", are former summer pastures dotted with numerous alpine barns built from larch wood, which were used to store hay for the long winter months.
From the tourist office (waymarker 68), follow the GR5 trail (red and white markings) down past the Romanesque church, cross the bridge and continue on the left-hand track as far as waymarker 69.
Continue on the track towards the Col d’Anelle (GR5), which climbs gradually in a series of switchbacks. The woodlands and meadows are home to a wide variety of flora depending on the season, such as the Ancolie de Bertoloni found on shaded slopes. Admire the magnificent view of the village of Saint-Dalmas-le-Selvage with its impressive Lombard bell tower, and of the surrounding peaks, including the Fortin de la Tête de Vinaigre.
You will arrive at a wide plateau with its larch-wood alpine barns, also known as "butières". Cross the plateau and continue along the track to the col (pass) (waymarkers 70 and 71), which offers a beautiful viewpoint over the Tinée valley.
The return journey is via the same route.
