Hiking - Col de Bramousse and Col Fromage from Bramousse - Guillestre
A lovely balcony view between the two passes
A unique route connecting the village to the mountain pasture chalets, which then continues to Col Fromage via Col de Bramousse. From Col de Bramousse, there's a beautiful view of the Pointe de la Saume and the Font Sancte peaks.
In the village of Bramousse, take the dirt road that goes up on the right at the designated parking area. Follow this track to a hairpin bend where it joins the GR 58 (marked with red and white blazes), which leads to the foot of the Bramousse mountain pasture chalets. Until the 1950s, the inhabitants of Bramousse would move up here from June to September. Continue on the GR58 to the last chalets, then head for Col de Bramousse (still on the GR58), which offers a fine viewpoint over the Font-Sancte peaks. The route crosses the meadow and follows the spring to the edge of the woods. You will be able to spot numerous marmots that have made their home in the middle of the mountain pastures. Then cross the forest on a straight logging track, which runs through larch and pine trees. The path runs along the edge of the woods again and comes out at Les Sagnes. As its name suggests, this area is criss-crossed by many springs, giving the landscape a unique appearance. It is a wide, small valley covered with dense ground vegetation and a few scattered trees. After a few switchbacks, you reach Col de Bramousse, which reveals views of the Font-Sancte and Saume peaks. Next, to continue towards Col Fromage, retrace your steps (for about 10 min), then take the path (marked with yellow blazes) that goes off to the right towards Col de Souillet. From the pass, follow the path along the mountainside to Col Fromage.
From Col Fromage (with a view over the Vallon du Cristillan), take the GR5 (marked with red and white blazes) towards Col des Prés Fromage for 300 m, then take the GR58 (marked with red and white blazes) which descends to the left into the Vallon du Riou Vert.
When you reach the forest track, cross it and continue on the GR58 towards the footbridge. Cross the footbridge as well and follow the GR58 variant back to Bramousse.
Warning: Access closed in winter (due to snow cover).
