Hiking - CUGES-LES-PINS - Sainte-Baume Ridge and Jas de Frédéric
A challenging hike that will delight lovers of stunning views and local heritage!
"I know this trail well, and yet, every time I set off from the centre of Cuges-les-Pins, I always feel that special charm of Pagnol's Provence. The climb begins gently through the garrigue. Along the way, you'll come across traces of the hill's old trades: an abandoned jas, an old cistern, resin pots nailed to the pine trees… Then, the slope gets steeper, the pine trees give way to rocks, and you reach the ridge. Up there, the view is spectacular! From the Pic de Bertagne, the panorama is magnificent: the Calanques, the Var massifs, Sainte-Victoire mountain… The hike is strenuous, but its wealth of different atmospheres and landscapes makes it well worth the effort". Mathilde Miguet, Outdoor Activities Project Manager at the Sainte-Baume Regional Natural Park.
- At point 3: be careful on the steep and slippery descent of the yellow-marked trail leading to Cuges-les-Pins. Wear sturdy shoes and watch your step, especially in wet weather.
- FIRE RISK: fire is the enemy of the forest… and the hiker! I do not smoke or light fires in the forest, as it is forbidden year-round! And during the summer, before setting out, I check the access conditions and regulations for forested areas for the Var and Bouches-du-Rhône departments, as this route crosses both.
