Hiking - From Castles to Rocks around Obersteinbach
Obersteinbach offers an ideal setting for hiking. This approximately 10 km loop will take you to some of the surrounding points of interest. Plenty more will remain to be discovered!
Rocks, castles, viewpoints, forests,... this hike provides a condensed experience of unique points of interest in the Northern Vosges.
Park at the Maison des Châteaux in Obersteinbach.
Head towards the hikers' stopover by following the road that leads to the village of Niedersteinbach (yellow markings). Continue by turning right (yellow markings).
You will discover the Üte des lavandières, a stopover for hikers. It faces the washhouse. Enjoy the view that opens onto traditional half-timbered houses and the ruins of Petit Arnsberg Castle.
Continue following the yellow markings towards Niedersteinbach along the stream "Le Steinbach".
The path will lead you to the village entrance where you need to cross to follow the red cross markings. Ascend to reach the intersection where you must turn right towards the Rocher des Bohémiens or Rocher des Tziganes (yellow ring markings).
Continue following the yellow ring markings until you reach a crossroads of multiple paths where you will rejoin the GR route.
The GR will lead you to discover the Rocher des Bohémiens.
Descending from the rock, you will arrive at a parking area. Continue towards Wasigenstein Castle.
Once at the Castle, descend to reach the bottom of the Langenbach valley.
From there, ascend towards Petit Arnsberg Castle following the castle markings. Continue on the yellow ring markings to finish the hike at the Wachtfels Arch and its viewpoint.
Descend back to Obersteinbach (yellow ring markings).
