Hiking - From the hamlet of Villaron to the Vallonbrun refuge
A contemplative and meditative ascent to the Vallonbrun refuge, winding through traditional hamlets and mountain chapels.
Enjoy the tranquility of the valley floor as you follow the meandering Arc river. You may be lucky enough to spot a white-throated dipper, a small passerine bird typical of mountain streams. The route is dotted with old barns, alpine chalets, and small chapels nestled against the mountainside.
From the car park, head towards the hamlet, crossing the mountain stream. Once in the heart of Villaron, in the small square, take the Chemin du Petit Bonheur on your left.
Follow this path to Bessans, staying on the right bank of the Arc and continue on the GR5.
Shortly after La Chalp, an old hamlet, follow the departmental road for 500m before stepping onto an avalanche barrier, then continue to the next hamlet.
At the Collet de la Madeleine, take the uphill path on the right just after the chapel. Continue your ascent, passing through two old hamlets. At the summit, descend 200m towards the refuge by taking the track.
