Trailence

Hiking - From Refuge de l'Arpont to the heights of Aussois

With its alternating ascents and descents, this balcony trail winds past the remains of old alpine chalets, flocks of sheep, and cascading waterfalls. An easy trail, it takes you up to the heights of Aussois, into a natural haven perfect for contemplation.

On this panoramic trail, expect chamois to nimbly leap across your path! High above, a bearded vulture might be watching you with a keen eye! From the heights of Aussois, you'll enjoy clear views stretching as far as the neighbouring Écrins massif.

Take the steep descent heading south. At the junction for Le Mont (the village of Termignon is 1h30 away), the trail climbs again and crosses the Combe de l’Enfer. Continue on this balcony trail which runs along the flank of the Dent Parrachée.
At the place known as La Loza, it is possible to get to Sardières in 1h30.
Climb for 20 minutes before descending via switchbacks through the rocks to the ruins of La Turra (Aussois can be reached in 2h30). Continue the descent, staying on this old military track which narrows in eroded sections. At junctions, always follow the direction for the Aussois refuges (Montana, Plan Sec, Fournache, Dent Parrachée, Fond d'Aussois). Cross the mountain stream—don't hesitate to use the installed cable for safety—then cross the alpine pasture towards the ski lifts.
