Hiking - From the Refuge du Bois in Champagny-le-Haut to the Col du Palet, on the Glacier Trail
Gain some altitude! With 1200 meters of elevation gain, this technically easy hike brings walkers right up close to the Vanoise glaciers.
Starting from the Refuge du Bois, the trail passes through Laisonnay, the most remote and oldest village in the Haute-Tarentaise region. Hikers follow the Glacier Trail. The path leads along rushing mountain streams and across alpine pastures to the dried-up Lac de la Glière. Lined with informational markers, the route offers views of the entire glacial system stretching from the Grand Bec (3398 m) to the Grande Motte (3653 m).
From the Refuge du Bois, head to the Laisonnay d'en bas car park, which can also be reached by car. From there, follow the vehicle track towards Laisonnay d'En Haut. Continue on the track towards the Refuge de la Glière. Once you have passed it, take the path that repeatedly crosses the pastoral track. When you reach the Plagne alpine pasture, 600 m after the Chalet du Sel, take the path that goes off to the right. At the next junctions, turn left then right; the refuge is less than 300 m away.
