Hiking - From the Orgère valley to the Péclet-Polset refuge
A magnificent traverse that climbs through alpine pastures towards Lac de la Partie, a lake surrounded by large boulders. The Col de Chavière, perched high at 2796 m, takes you from the Maurienne to the Tarentaise region, offering a superb viewpoint of the legendary Mont-Blanc.
Cross through a bright larch forest, then take a deep breath of fresh air as you approach Lac de la Partie.
Up there, the horizon opens up, and waterfalls and peaks seem to be within arm's reach. In a rocky, high-mountain atmosphere, the trail winds along the foot of Tête Noire, a favourite spot for ibex and chamois.
Take the path that starts to the left of the Orgère refuge, which climbs in switchbacks through a Swiss pine forest.
At the Estiva chalets, cross the alpine meadows. Follow the Povaret stream. Climb gradually to the junction with the path from the Polset valley, arriving from the left. Head north, where the Col de Chavière is clearly visible. Ascend through a rocky meadow to reach the Col de Chavière at an altitude of 2796 m. The rest of the route is straightforward, unless snow patches remain. Descend on the Tarentaise side, staying in the valley, and reach the Péclet-Polset refuge, visible from a distance, by taking the fork that leads onto the left-hand slopes of the valley.
