Hiking - GÉMENOS - The Ice House Trail
Explore the shady Saint-Pons valley, following the Fauge stream to the Bertagne ice house. Heritage and panoramic views await!
“A friend from Marseille recommended this hike, and I don't regret it for a second! As soon as you arrive at Saint-Pons Park, you're captivated by the atmosphere: the cool air, the sound of the stream, the shade of the tall trees… As you head up the valley, you discover some real industrial heritage: the ruins of an old mill, a paper mill, and a stone ice house. It all tells the story of a time when water brought the valley to life. The climb is gradual, the views unfold little by little, and the Pic de Bertagne rises majestically. From the very top, the panoramic view all the way to the Mediterranean is breathtaking!”. Léa, a hiker on holiday in the Bouches-du-Rhône.
- SAINT-PONS PARK: This protected natural site, owned by the Department of Bouches-du-Rhône, is subject to specific regulations. It may be closed in the event of natural hazards (strong winds, rain, snow, thawing, fire). Before I go, I check the access conditions (especially in summer). To preserve this fragile place, I respect the prohibitions: no dogs, no bikes, no picking plants, no swimming, no fires. I use the designated area at the park entrance and I leave with all my rubbish. Mounted guards protect the site. For any questions, I contact the Departmental Guard on 04 13 31 50 30.
- FIRE RISK: Fire is the enemy of the forest… and the hiker! I do not smoke or light fires in the forest, especially since it's forbidden whatever the season! And during the summer, before setting out on a walk, I find out about the access conditions and regulations for forest areas.
