Hiking - The Beautiful Apple Tree Walk

A short and easy walk in the Limagne plain.

Saint-Vital Church

This small commune near Crevant-Laveine boasts a church built between the 11th and 12th centuries. Its surviving mural paintings and rich capitals make it a Romanesque masterpiece. It was gifted by the lord of the time around 1050 to the monks of La Chaise-Dieu. The two-story Romanesque bell tower, topped with a stone spire, collapsed in 1792, leading to instability in the vaults and walls. Today, above the altar of the Blessed Virgin, one can see a statue believed, according to legend, to come from a 12th-century chapel, or possibly earlier, erected near the hamlet of "Raymonds" and known as the "beau pommier" (beautiful apple tree). A miraculous spring was said to cure fevers, and a pilgrimage took place on March 25th. During the Revolution, the chapel was demolished. Nothing remains today except for this "miraculously" preserved statue.
