Hiking - The Trois Croix Chapel and the Valloire Balcony Trails

An easy hike that alternates between forests and alpine pastures, leading to the charming Notre-Dame-de-la-Vie chapel and the hamlet of Le Col. The balcony route reveals a magnificent panorama of Valloire, the surrounding villages, the peaks of the Maurienne and the Massif des Ecrins.

Built in 1828, the chapel is found on the ridgeline of the old Télégraphe pass: Notre-Dame-de-la-Vie takes its name from the Latin via, meaning road. Just 10 minutes away towards the Col du Télégraphe, hikers can visit a small fort. This remnant from the last war offers a remarkable viewpoint over the Maurienne mountains.

From the car park, head towards the chapel and take the path on the right that climbs to the 3 Croix. At the chapel, you will find a beautiful panorama and a viewpoint indicator.

From the chapel, follow the signs for "Valmeinier par route forestière" to the junction; climb to the right and then continue straight on the path named "Balcon de Valloire". Pass below the Mollartot alpine chalet to a junction where a path on the right descends to the hamlet of Le Col (option to return to the starting point).

Continue to Poingt Rogerel, passing a path after about 10 minutes that leads directly to Les Granges. At Poingt Rogerel, take the path on the right that crosses the hamlet to reach the Piste des Lutins after about a quarter of an hour. After about 5 minutes and a left-hand bend, take a small path (red markings) that goes down to the hamlet of Les Granges; then turn right, just before the chapel and at the far end of the car park, onto a path that climbs to the hamlet of Le Col.
