Hiking - La Chaulme Montarcher
# La Chaulme
A small commune located at an altitude of 1150m, it boasts a pretty waterfall (Le Creux de l’Oulette) and an admirable 12th-century priory. Fortified in the 15th century, the church belonged to the Benedictines of La Chaise Dieu.
# Montarcher
Midway through the hike, the charming village of Montarcher was once a fortified stronghold and also a place of worship, as evidenced by the Romanesque church built in the 12th century, whose apse, known as "en cul de four," is of Byzantine style.
# La Chapelle de Notre-Dame-de-Toutes-Grâces
Built in 1921 to replace a small oratory, this pilgrimage site houses a delicate 17th-century carved wooden Virgin. Off the main route, north of the hamlet of l’Olme, you will find Le Bois du Roy, a magnificent forest that belonged to the Counts of Forez, covering nearly 100 hectares and supplying trees for the royal navy's masts. Around this forest, 72 fleur-de-lis markers are still visible, out of the hundred documented by royal letters patent in 1728.
