Hiking - La Croix de la Célarie - Thélis la Combe No. 1
Construction of the church, built with beautiful granite blocks, began in 1857 and was completed in 1860. On August 12th of that same year, Father Seytre, a missionary from Lyon, came to inaugurate it. The parish's patron saint is Mary. Inside, you can discover a moving wooden Christ, sculpted by a local artist, and some very beautiful stained-glass windows.
The recent renovation (2001) has given clarity and charm to this church, which is crowned by a square bell tower topped with a Cross of Lorraine.
This walk offers magnificent views of the village of Thélis, especially from the opposite side of the valley.
You will also discover crosses typical of the local area.
Leave the village, heading towards the RD2 (Bourg-Argental, Graix), and follow the road for over 1 km. It is a small, winding, shaded asphalt road. You will see a waterfall, a bridge, and further on, below the road, the hamlet of "Moulinon" with its old silk mill.
After crossing "le Riotet" stream, when you reach the RD2, turn left towards Graix and follow the road for 50 meters.
Then take the path on the right (this is Pilat Park trail No. 6). Turn left and follow this path to the hamlet of "la Combe," where the view of the village of Thélis-la-Combe is magnificent. In the center of this hamlet, turn left towards an "iron cross" and follow the path until you leave the hamlet.
Turn right after a building, then left, and continue on a dirt path.
You will come to a small road. Go past the place called "La Célarie," turn right and continue for 200 m. At the crossroads where the cross known as "la Croix de La Célarie" is located.
Turn right, follow this road, and then rejoin the Pilat Park mountain bike trail No. 6 towards the hamlet of "Puit de Luzinas". When you are below a house at the place called "la Guillotière," take the path on the right (following the white and yellow blazes) that goes down towards the RD2 and brings you back to the village of Thélis.
