Walking - La Faverge - La Grand-Croix n° 2
From Platière park, the trail follows the banks of the Gier river before gently climbing into the surrounding countryside.
Up to the Chavillon bridge, the route is shared with the Arcs loop. Turn right onto the Route de la Péronnière, then, before the ADAPEI buildings, take the "Frein" path on the left, which climbs steeply up to the Combérigol leisure centre. Continue to a small crossroads.
Go straight on and take the small path opposite, which descends towards a housing estate. Follow this path, which can be muddy, until it reaches the Faverge stream. Cross it as best you can (during periods of high water, a narrow passage upstream between two trees will let you cross without getting your feet wet!).
On the left bank, take the stony path that first climbs through a forest, then runs alongside orchards at the top. You will reach the Route de Couttange. Take this road to the right. With a beautiful view over the valley and the Pilat massif, it leads, after "la Jardière", to a junction with the D106.
Turn right and walk down the D106 for a few metres (caution). Turn left onto the narrow Route des Bruyères. After about 1 km, at a hairpin bend, turn left onto the Impasse des Bruyères, which quickly leads to the Corbeyre metal cross and its superb panoramic view of the valley and the Pilat massif.
Return to the narrow Route des Bruyères and continue downhill. At a slight right-hand bend, take the small Chemin de la Faverge on the left to rejoin the D106. Go down this road (caution) until you reach the Frontignat crossroads at the bottom. Turn right and return to Chavillon via the Route de la Péronnière. After passing under the motorway, you will return to Platière park.
