Hiking - La forêt au Duc

On the edge of the Morvan, Quarré-les-Tombes beckons you to pause before the enigmatic tombstones surrounding the church. Deer hide in the Au Duc state forest.
The fairy tales of the Morvan await you on this walk at the edge of the Forêt au Duc, a beautiful stand of oaks and beeches dotted here and there with conifers. Once the property of the Duke of Burgundy, it is one of the oldest state forests in France and the largest in the Morvan. The "Roche des fées" (Fairy Rock) bears witness to the rich oral tradition and legends surrounding fairies. These good ladies lived near springs or in rocks and hollows. As long as they were left in peace, they were benevolent... The people of the Morvan considered them to be deities of the springs
and asked them for healing by placing a hazel wand wrapped in white wool.
