Hiking - La Morille
From the Château de Ravel to the Sabatier Path. A family-friendly walk with no difficulty.
Château de Ravel
Rising from its nine centuries of history and its 200 hectares of land, Ravel offers visitors a wide panorama over the entire Limagne plain. Built by Bernard de Revel, lord of Ravel around 1171, it became royal property under Philip III the Bold, son of Saint-Louis. The imposing building has six towers and a keep arranged around an inner courtyard. The Salle des États, from the 13th century, features the first heraldic friezes of France. The current form of this former fortress is thanks to Charles Henry Théodat, Count of Estaing, in the late 18th century. He carried out numerous interior works, notably the terrace with its French-style garden (École de Le Nôtre), 60 meters wide with its four three-hundred-year-old beech trees. Classified as a historical monument in 1958, the building is the property of the descendants of the Riberolles family. In 2003, the site was chosen for the filming of the movie “Les Choristes” directed by Christophe Barratier, with Gérard Jugnot, François Berléand, Kad Merad and Jean-Baptiste Maunier.
