Hiking - LAURIS - Portalas and biodiversity along the way
Biodiversity is us too! Us and everything else that lives on Earth...
"I knew I lived in an exceptional place! The municipality of Lauris, which begins in the Petit Luberon and stretches down to the Durance river, with the Alps and the Alpilles within reach, has everything it takes. The recent creation of a Biodiversity Atlas in Lauris, in partnership with the Luberon Park, has proven this once again. There are few places as rich as ours, with what is overall a sustainable approach to agriculture, to discover, support, and protect a thriving biodiversity: plants, insects, bats... We watch over it all, under the piercing gaze of our emblematic and majestic bird of prey, the Short-toed Snake Eagle." Eric Fontanarava, a Lauris resident.
- Between points 2 and 3: the path is narrow, steep, and rocky, and can be wet and slippery. Caution!
- Between points 2 and 3: At the small pass between Recaute and Sautadou, please be as quiet as possible to preserve the peace of the birds of prey that nest and live in the area.
- WARNING: PASTORAL AREA on the heights of the massif from early June to late July: if you encounter livestock guardian dogs, do not pet or threaten them. Stop, wait patiently for them to "check" you out, then calmly continue on your way, giving the flock as wide a berth as possible. It is best not to bring your dog; if you do, keep it on a tight leash. As a reminder, review the correct behaviour to adopt when encountering livestock guardian dogs.
- FIRE RISK. Fire is the enemy of the forest... and the hiker! Do not smoke or light fires in the forest; it is forbidden year-round! And in summer, before setting out, check the current conditions and regulations for access to forest areas.
