Hiking - LE BOURGUET - Bagarry

A short walk to discover the Saint Pierre sensitive natural area and admire its flowering meadows in spring.

Starting from the village, this pleasant hike takes you up the Bourguet valley to the clearings. Along the dirt paths, you will discover the sheepfolds: the Saint-Pierre sheepfold, nestled against the hill, and the Bagarry sheepfold, now in ruins. Along the way, you will come across a surprising gully and, at the highest point of the walk, you'll reach a viewpoint offering a lovely view over the Artuby hills and the village of Le Bourguet.

Avoid the intense summer heat by setting off early. Bring: 1.5 L of water per person, a hat, and hiking boots. Recommended seasons: summer, spring, autumn. About 3 km from the start, at a place called Bagarry, you will find a sheepfold on your left with goats and livestock guardian dogs (patous). The dogs often bark; don't be afraid, just walk past calmly. They will come to sniff you and then leave. If you are concerned, the shepherds' phone number is written on a sign on your right as you go up, by the side of the path. Don't hesitate to call them; they will come to meet you, giving you an opportunity to chat with them about their work and the animals (they also make excellent cheese!).
