Hiking - The Vallonpierre Pass
At the foot of the high peaks of the Écrins, this hike crosses pastoral and mineral landscapes, leading to the Vallonpierre Pass.
From the valley bottom, the trail passes through alpine meadows, pastures, and streams, reaching the Vallonpierre refuge and lake nestled in a green setting. Approaching the cirque, the final climb to the pass, along the schist slopes, offers a splendid finale facing the Sirac and the Écrins summits, from the Champsaur to the edge of the Oisans.
In summer, the alpine pastures along the route are grazed by sheep. Be sure to close the gates carefully.
The schist slopes that the trail crosses on the way up to Vallonpierre Pass can be extremely slippery, especially in rainy conditions.
