Hiking - The Jasseries Courier
Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful routes in the Livradois-Forez region. On the Hautes-Chaumes, in sumptuous landscapes, you follow in the footsteps of the courier, who, like in the past, laden with
charms, will complete his tour of distilleries.
The etymology of these two terms comes from the Latin “jacere” meaning
to be lying down. The distillery is the place where the animals “lie down” to spend the night. This etymology is the same for the verb gésir and the hare’s resting place. It is now widely accepted that the term
“distillery” refers to the building. However, for others, and more precisely, the jas would be the building and the distillery the hamlet or grouping of jas.
Don't forget to close the fences, and avoid this route in bad weather!
