Hiking - Le Petit Chemin des Bois - Colombier n° 1

Passes through the hamlet of Les Mines at 880 m (former lead mines).

From the town hall square, head down the D8 road for 25m towards Saint-Julien-Molin-Molette, then turn left in front of the old post house (statue of the Virgin, old road sign). Opposite the cemetery, take the uphill road on the right. At the stone cross, turn right, follow the path for 300m, then fork right onto a path into the woods which will take you to the hamlet of Les Mines at 880 m (former lead mines). Turn left towards Les Fanges (a wetland area). At the top, follow the paved path for 70 metres, then begin the descent on the left. Further down, on your right and below the path, you will spot a huge, oddly-shaped rock, about 8 m high. On the left, a few metres from the trail, you will see the ruins of an old farm; the place is called “la Sarazinière”. At the bottom, cross the “le Combaro” stream and follow the path straight ahead, which will take you back to the path you were on earlier.

At the Cross, you can either continue on the path you took at the start or go down the street opposite, then fork left at the second cross to go through the village and return to the Town Hall square.

• Tick bites can lead to serious diseases; as a preventive measure: wear long clothing, use insect repellent, check your body upon your return, remove any ticks with a tick remover tool without applying any substance to it, and consult a doctor in case of redness, flu-like symptoms, or if you are in an at-risk group.
