Hiking - Le Rozey-Chaussitre-La Béate - Marlhes No. 3
Along the trail, you will find the Rozet Chapel and hamlet, the Maison de la Béate, and the option to reach the summit of Chaussitre at 1245m.
A hikers' room is available behind the church with tables and a water point.
Take Rue des Narcisses towards La Chaux, then Rue de la Chiratte. After the houses, continue on the path, cross the Ecotay stream and climb until you reach the Beaudier forest path. Turn left to reach the hamlet of Rosey.
Follow the road to the centre of the hamlet and the birthplace of Saint Marcellin Champagnat, founder of the Marist Brothers. Take the path to the left of the Rosey tavern (this is the start of the Marcellin Champagnat trail, marked with brown and white waymarks) and reach the RD 74. Cross it carefully and walk through the woods. Follow the waymarks for 1.5 km. Cross the Route de Montaron and continue straight on the Chemin de la Rochette.
After the beech wood, you can climb to the summit of Chaussitre (alt. 1240 m) by taking the path on the right; otherwise, continue straight on through the heathland. Chaussitre is a designated Managed Biological Reserve and a classified Natura 2000 site, which helps preserve its ecological richness.
As you leave the wood, in the Valadon clearing, take the Route du Tracollet on the left. After 600 m, take a grassy path on your left to reach the RD 501 (⚠️ Caution, this is a busy road, please be careful.). Cross it to reach l’Allier.
The Maison de la Béate is a short walk away, with tours and exhibitions available in the summer season.
Before the last houses, turn left into Impasse des Brebis. Follow the path to Route des Bonneaux. Continue straight on, and at the hairpin bend, keep following the path to Route de la Grange. Turn right for 100 m, then at the Cross, take the path on the left. Continue straight on to get back to the village.
Cross the RD 501 (⚠️ Caution, this is a busy road, please be careful), take the trail behind the fire station, and head back to the town centre.
You are responsible for your own safety. Therefore, you undertake this hike at your own risk. Please stay on the waymarked trails to protect these fragile environments.
A few recommendations:
Check the weather forecast before you set off
Some routes cross busy roads: Please be careful
Keep dogs on a leash
