Hiking - Le Sentier des Croix - St-Sauveur-en-Rue No. 3
Many crosses stand in the heart of the village and along the trail. Some are very old, reminding us of the religious fervour of the hamlets we pass through. This loop also takes you to the Château de Bobigneux and the Poulette viaduct.
Cross the town following Rue Jean Roux. At the church, go down the cobbled street and turn left. At the 4-way intersection, take the uphill Montée des Ecoles. Continue on level ground, passing below the cemetery (Cross in the centre of the cemetery). At the Cross, climb towards Montviol, continue on the flat before descending to the stream and climbing back up quite steeply to la Vernaly. Go back down the small road to the D 503 (Croix de la Voûte).
Cross the road carefully, go down for about 30 metres then turn back left to take the small path. Pass the Bobigneux mill and cross the bridge to reach Bobigneux. In the hamlet, follow the paved path through the houses to the very end. Turn right and go up to the entrance of the inn's car park. Take the path that climbs left through the woods. A hundred metres later, fork left again. Climb up to the old railway line.
Turn right and cross the Poulette viaduct. Continue to the intersection signposted for les Chiroux. Take the path on the right towards la Perretière, then the small road that leads you back to the village.
