Hiking - Le Cheval Noir Summit via La Sauce

Accessible by road in summer only, the village of La Sauce is the starting point for this ascent towards one of the most beautiful panoramic views in the Tarentaise.
The circuit traverses the different alpine zones, crosses flowery alpine pastures and runs along dark high-altitude lakes. A final steep section through the scree fields heralds the summit, and with it the reward of a panoramic view over the entire Lauzière mountain range. Adding to the grandeur of the landscape is another surprise: a metallic horse rears up facing the vastness. A striking artistic curiosity!

From the small village of La Sauce (1620 m), follow the small road to the junction after 50 m, then take the Fût circuit track and pass in front of the Plan de Lombardie hut (1784m) on the Grand Tour de Tarentaise.

A little further on, a sign indicates the Cheval Noir; continue on the small road to the Chalets de la Platière (1953 m).

Turn right and follow the Ruisseau du Cheval Noir to the lakes (the path doesn't really exist, it is faintly present intermittently, but some cairns are clearly visible).

From the lakes, reach the Col du Cheval Noir (2527 m) by climbing the slope to join the main trail that ascends to the summit from St François-Longchamp or Valmorel.

Upon arrival, at 2832 m, the rearing Cheval Noir awaits you. Enjoy a 360° view over the entire Lauzière mountain range and its surrounding peaks:
Grand Perron des Encombres, Pointe du Mont du Fût, Aiguilles de Peclet et de Polset, Mont Brequin, ...but also the Aravis mountain range, the Ecrins Massif, the Vanoise Glaciers, Pic de l’Etendard, Mont-Blanc as far as the Dent d’Hérens and the Cervin.
