Hiking - Le Soult
Discover places rich in history, from the Château de L’Hom, with beautiful viewpoints over the villages and Cévennes valleys.
The Soult trail, from the old French word for "source," winds into the woods overlooking the village of L'Estréchure. It passes near the Liron massif and offers viewpoints above 750 m in altitude. Fir, pine, oak, and especially chestnut trees form a typical forest here.
Warning: do not attempt after heavy rains or during flood periods.
Along the route, directional posts guide you. The place names and/or directions to follow are indicated in bold italics and in quotes in the description below:
From the village square, at the post « L’Estréchure », head towards « La Bécédelle/Boisserolle » via the « château de L’Hom ». Bypass the campsite along the edge of the stream (beware during heavy rain).
At the post « château de L’Hom », follow « La Bécédelle » by taking the path that rises opposite the château. The path climbs to reach a forest track, which you take to the left and ascend in switchbacks to a paved road. Take it to the right downhill to reach the post indicating « La Bécédelle ». The ascent continues towards « L’Estréchure / Boisserolle ». Finally, join the D152 road, which you follow to the right. Leave it to the left at point 730, behind the old roadman’s shelter, to descend towards « Boisserolle » and return to « L’Estréchure ».
