Hiking - The Orgère Valley via Col du Barbier
From the heights of Aussois, you'll hike along a peaceful and less-traveled path. Located on the route of the GR55 and the Via Alpina, the Orgère mountain hut offers a timeless stop in a fabulous setting!
This picture-postcard itinerary unfolds a beautiful succession of alpine meadows and coniferous forests, some of which are centuries old! As you progress, the trail offers breathtaking views of the Dent Parrachée, Thabor, Aiguilles d'Arves and the Écrins Massif. The Orgère Valley, with its abundance of spring flowers, lends a bucolic character to the hike. This spot is perfect for observing marmots at play!
Reach the trail that crosses the Sétéria bridge above Plan d’Amont Lake.
Start climbing towards the col, leaving the two Aussois lakes behind you.
At the junction, bear left onto the GR®5 heading south.
After traversing the Mauvais Berger plateau, the trail leaves the heart of the Vanoise National Park to then follow its boundaries (blue-white-red markings).
Cross the Col du Barbier, a small rise with its solitary pine visible from afar, then traverse alpine pastures, passing near several chalets before beginning the descent on a more winding trail that leads into the forest.
Continue to the Orgère Valley. Take the right fork for the Refuge de l'Aiguille Doran or continue descending for the Refuge de l'Orgère.
