Hiking - Legend of the Pierre Aiguë
A challenging hike in the forests of Morvan, marked by water with its numerous
fountains, and touched by a hint of mysticism.
The Legend of the Pierre Aiguë
This curious pile of stones is said to have been dedicated to the Virgin Mary. A lovely legend is associated with the
site. Long ago, as the Virgin Mary was guiding Saint Bartholomew to Villapourçon, she wished to rest on a height of the Niret. Before leaving, she placed three small stones one on top of the other, saying: "Little stones, you shall become big." Upon her departure, the stones grew to the size they are today. In her benevolence, the Virgin Mary protected the
region and its inhabitants from the misfortunes of war and the ravages caused to the sheep flocks by wolves. Finally, the Virgin Mary's last prediction was that the end of the world would not come as long as the Pierre Aiguë existed.
