Vineyards, vineyard slopes, a chateau and a mill are all features of this hike.
WARNING: For hikes along the Rhône river, check for flood risks before you leave by contacting the town hall or visiting www.vigicrues.gouv.fr or www.inforhone.fr
Go down the road towards Tartaras for 100 metres, then take the dirt path on the left. Cross the stream and traverse the small valley. Go up the path on the left to reach the Tartaras plateau. At the hamlet of Tartaras, take the local road on your left. Continue downhill for 1 km and take the dead-end road. At the end of the paved section, stop to admire the view of the vineyard slopes, the village, the Rhône river, and the market gardening area.
Then, take the dirt path on the left, which will lead you down into the heart of one of France's oldest and most prestigious vineyards. The path leads to a restored building: this is Le Moulin (The Mill). Here, the Fongeant and Reynard streams merge.
Follow the path, keeping parallel to the stream, until you reach the D 386 road.
Cross the square, passing in front of the church.
Find the stream again and follow Rue du Port straight ahead to the Rhône river.
Here, on the first Sunday and Monday of every September, you can watch and cheer on the water jousters as they compete in the Lyonnaise and Givordine styles. On the left, go up Impasse du Port, then continue along the small Rue du Port. Turn right and walk past the chateau on Rue du Grand Pré. At the intersection with Rue des Coutures, turn left onto Rue du Trièves. Take the underpass to cross the railway line. Then, go up Impasse du Trièves to the D 386.
Cross the road and take Rue de Ritolas opposite you. At the crossroads with Rue du Jarre and Route de la Brocarde, take the dirt path straight ahead. Go around the house and you will find the Coursière de Ritolas on your left. Halfway up the slope, the dirt path becomes paved.
