Hiking - LURS - Chemin des Evêques and the Roman Bridge
Lurs, a perched village; the Promenade des Evêques (Bishops' Walk) and the Way of St. James (Chemin de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle); the Roman bridge, a remnant of the Via Domitia... A route steeped in history!
"Starting from Lurs, classified as a 'village et cité de caractère' (village and town of character) and one of the most beautiful perched villages in Haute-Provence, this hike offers magnificent panoramic views of the rolling plateaus of the Pays de Forcalquier, the Lure mountain, olive groves, the Durance valley, the Valensole plateau, and the Alpine peaks. I love walking along the 'balcony of Lurs' in winter when the clarity of the Provençal sky lets you see for miles and the snow-capped peaks contrast with the olive groves I'm walking through." Jean-Bernard Letemple, Compagnie des Grands Espaces.
- Between points 2 and 3: watch your ankles on the descent through the woods; there is a small rocky escarpment.
- Make sure to bring enough water, as there is nowhere to refill along the way.
- As you walk, particularly on the Chemins des écritures and the Chemin des Évêques, please respect the spirit of the place and its fragile historical and cultural heritage...
