Hiking - MANOSQUE - In the Pélicier National Forest

Sweeping panoramas followed by an Austrian black pine forest; a magical combination!

"On hot summer days, this hike is particularly pleasant as most of it takes place in the cool Pélicier forest: this stand of Austrian black pines, the oldest of which were planted around 1900, alternates with white oak coppices in the valley bottoms, while the two native pines—Scots pine and Aleppo pine—appear here and there. In autumn and winter, it's not uncommon to come across roe deer. The first third of the route, much more open, offers superb views over the Durance valley, the Alpes de Haute-Provence and Lure mountain." Jean-Bernard Letemple, hiking guide with the Compagnie des Grands Espaces.

  • Between waypoints 4 and 5, there are several steep and eroded sections; caution and shoes with good grip and stability are recommended!

  • CAUTION: LIVESTOCK GRAZING AREA AHEAD! In the presence of livestock guardian dogs, do not pet or threaten them. Stop, then wait patiently for them to finish their "inspection" before calmly continuing on your way, giving the flock the widest possible berth. It is preferable not to bring your own dog, but if you do, it must be kept on a leash.

  • FIRE RISK. Fire is the enemy of the forest… and the hiker! Do not smoke or light fires in the forest, as it is forbidden regardless of the season! And during the summer, before setting off, check the access conditions and regulations for forest areas.
