Hiking - MAZAUGUES - The Pivaut Ice House and le Gaudin

This loop trail will take you on a discovery of the magnificent Pivaut Ice House, winding through forests and Provençal garrigue.

After a beautiful climb through the Mazaugues state forest, you will discover the Pivaut Ice House. Fully restored by the Var Departmental Council, it features information panels along the way explaining the local fauna, flora, the history of the site, and how the ice houses worked. During the return journey via the Gaudin plain, you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.

Depending on the season, there may be a river crossing at waypoint no. 5.

A flock and guard dogs may be present along this hike: know how to react! Give the flock as wide a berth as possible. If a dog approaches, stop, do not stare it in the eyes, do not raise your hiking poles, and speak to it calmly while it identifies you.

In summer, the area is at high risk of wildfires. As a result, access is restricted from June 21st to September 20th. Check the access conditions for the forest areas, which are updated daily on the Var prefecture's website.
