Hiking - Montagne de Tête (B16)
Summit, view of the Alps (Mont-Blanc, Ecrins, Lauzière, etc.), alpine pastures, forest, forest flora and fauna.
A route with no particular technical difficulty, allowing you to enjoy beautiful mountain landscapes and experience Valmorel's pastoral environment.
The starting point for the Montagne de Tête loop is in the resort of Valmorel, in the hamlet of Fontaine, at the foot of the Lanchettes chairlift (1,350 m). The first part of the route follows a wide, gentle path that crosses a wildflower meadow to Montolivet. Then the path climbs up to the Montagne de Tête ridge.
Once you reach the Biard plateau (1,560 m), the route takes a trail climbing up Montagne de Tête, offering a panoramic view of the Crève-Tête summit, the resort's iconic peak.
Once on the plateau, head down towards the junction at the Biollène ski lifts. You will reach the top of the Planchamp gondola, the highest point of the hike at an altitude of 1,920 m. From there, an exceptional view opens up over the Morel valley, the Lauzière range, the Crève-Tête summit, and Mont Blanc in the distance.
The descent on the trail known as the "51 switchbacks" is quite fast through the alpine pastures. Then, a pleasant traverse through a spruce forest will lead you alongside the Morel stream before returning to Valmorel at the tennis courts behind the Mottet hamlet. Be aware of the possible presence of mountain bikes on this final forest section.
