Hiking - ONGLES - Ongles Plain and Piébroux Hill
A flavorful escape between the agricultural plain and the surrounding hills.
"I love this hike, which gives me the chance to fully recharge, right near my village. It’s in the heart of winter, when a deep silence reigns in the undergrowth, that I most appreciate the change of scenery it provides: oak and pine forests give the landscapes a wild beauty. As for the meadows and pathsides, they offer me the spectacle of the tall stalks of withered grasses and the catananches topped with their translucent calyxes, once flowering is over." Jean-Bernard Letemple, hiking guide from the Compagnie des Grands Espaces.
- After waypoints 1, 3, 7 and before waypoint 8: watch for traffic when crossing the departmental roads, even if they are not busy.
- WARNING: PASTORAL AREA from early June to late July: if livestock guardian dogs approach you, do not pet or threaten them. Stop, then wait patiently for them to finish their "inspection" before calmly resuming your way, giving the flock as wide a berth as possible. It is best not to bring your own dog; if you do, keep it on a tight leash. As a reminder, please review the correct way to behave around livestock guardian dogs.
- FIRE RISK: Fire is the enemy of the forest… and the hiker! Do not smoke or light fires in the forest, as it is forbidden in all seasons! And in the summer, before setting out, check the access conditions and regulations for forest areas.
