Hiking - Par Bois et Barlans - Le Chambon-Feugerolles No. 3

Caution: The ford across the Malval stream can be difficult to cross during high water periods. Additionally, the descent to and ascent from the stream banks is quite steep.

Claudinon Castle was the residence of the owners (ironmasters) of the Claudinon company, located at the 'fonderie neuve' (the new foundry) (les platanes) from 1860.
After Les Brosses, you will discover common gorse, with its formidable thorns and yellow, broom-like flowers; it is called 'barlan' in the local dialect.
The trail starts at Place Pasteur.
Cross the square towards Bouchet Park. At the exit of Bouchet Park, turn right. Then take the path on the left that leads to the hamlet of Bergognon. Follow the wall of the 'Claudinon' castle grounds.
Cross the Malval stream and head towards the hamlet of La Reunaudière. In the village, on your right, note a house built in 1819 (see the pediment). After the village, turn left then right, and continue to Les Brosses. Take a dirt path on the left that runs through the middle of the fields, which will lead you to the locality of La Garde.
A paved path leads to the last houses of the hamlet. Go back down the D10 road to the 'Malval' stream. Leave the road by taking the path on the right. Cross the locality of 'Les Roches'.
Continue for a few hundred metres. At the junction with the variant trail, continue straight ahead. Go past the first house of 'Pierre Percée'. Continue right on the small paved road to 'La Michalière'. Go straight down Rue de Myrtilles, then Rue du Château d'eau. At La Fontaine school, turn left onto Rue des Romiers, then immediately right onto Allée des Troènes. Follow the trail markers back to Place Pasteur.

⚠️ Caution, road with heavy traffic, be careful.
