Hiking - POMMEROL - The Raton Crests

With its unique fauna and flora, its colours and its peaceful atmosphere, the Montagne de Raton is waiting for you!

“I was blown away by the atmosphere and panoramas of the Montagne de Raton. The climb up to the Passière de la Sapie is a garden of Eden where you discover new scents, species and light. Once at the summit, I was able to admire a vast panorama: from the Rosanais basin to the Diois region, stretching as far as Mont-Ventoux and the Dévoluy mountains. The crests reveal a wide expanse of alpine meadows where you might spot chamois, all in a very calming atmosphere.” Hugo COLIN, intern at the Baronnies Provençales Regional Nature Park

RESPECT THE TRANQUILITY of the area you are walking in, avoid shouting and do not use sound devices (radios, etc.), out of respect for other users but also for the peace of the wildlife, especially during breeding and wintering seasons when animals are much more vulnerable.

CAUTION: PASTORAL AREA ON THE TRAIL: if you encounter livestock guardian dogs, do not pet or threaten them. Stop, then wait patiently for them to finish their "inspection" before calmly resuming your path, skirting around the flock as much as possible. It is best not to bring your own dog; if you do, keep it on a tight leash. Remember to close any gates behind you.

FIRE RISK. Fire is the enemy of the forest… and the hiker! Do not smoke or light fires in the forest, especially as it is forbidden in all seasons! And during the summer, before setting out, check the conditions and regulations for access to forested areas.

Part of the route is very exposed to the sun, so bring the necessary gear (water, hat, sunscreen, etc.) for hot summer days. It is best to start early in the morning to avoid the hottest hours of the day.
